PROJECT TITLE: Core-shell nanoparticles - from relaxation theory to contrast agents for Magnetic Resonance Imaging
KEYWORDS: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, contrast agents, relaxation, magnetic nanoparticles
APPLICATION DEADLINE: 18.05.2021 (23:59)
ANTICIPATED DATE OF ANNOUNCING THE OUTCOME: 25.05.2021
PLANNED STARTING DATE: 01.06.2021
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is one of the most profitable method of medical diagnostics. MRI provides information about pathological changes in tissue on the basis of differences between 1H relaxation rates between healthy and pathological tissues. To increase the differences contrast agents
are applied – they often include Gadolinium; iron oxide nanoparticle based system are also used. Recent development in nanotechnology has led to manufacturing core-shell nanoparticles. Tailored magnetic properties of such systems make then highly promising as novel contrast agents. However, at this stage, there is no comprehensive theory linking the structural and magnetic properties of core-shell nanoparticles with the contrast effect. The studies aim at developing theoretical models of 1H relaxation processes in systems containing core-shell nanoparticles and their thorough testing against experimental data.
